About Our Church

Our Mission
We are here to glorify the Triune God through faithful and united service in worldwide evangelism, biblical teaching, Christ-centered worship, godly living and Christian love.
Our Core Beliefs
  1. Jesus is Lord, fully God, fully man, the second Person of the eternal Trinity, co-equal with the Father and the Holy Spirit, One God, Creator of heaven and earth, always existing as three fully divine Persons.
  2. The Bible alone and in its entirety is the written word of God, consisting of 66 books arranged in two Testaments, true in every detail, and the sufficient revelation of God’s moral will.
  3. Man is created in God’s image to serve and enjoy Him forever.
  4. God also created angels who are serving spirits, however some of them rebelled against God and are at work in the world to undermine His plan for salvation and the restoration of creation.
  5. Having fallen from innocence through Adam’s sin, mankind has become corrupted by sin and deserves eternal condemnation.
  6. Salvation is God’s gift of forgiveness, spiritual life, and everlasting friendship, granted freely to every individual who faithfully accepts Jesus Christ as his or her personal Lord and Savior.
  7. Jesus is the One and only Savior for all mankind, virgin-born, sinless, and His death on a cross made atonement for sin.
  8. Jesus rose bodily from the dead and ascended bodily to heaven.
  9. The church is Jesus’ community composed of all true believers, which meets in local assemblies for biblical teaching, spiritual fellowship and Christ-centered worship, and which conducts Jesus’ program of worldwide evangelism.
  10. Jesus is coming again to judge every soul, and to establish His Kingdom on earth.
Our Baptist Views
We are a bible-believing, Christ-centered and, neighbor-helping fellowship of Christians who call ourselves ‘baptists,’ but with a little “b”.

We are not overly concerned about what people wear to church, what versions of the Bible they read, their musical tastes or any other personal preferences that Jesus allows.

We are however very concerned with having and maintaining spiritually healthy hearts and minds.

We are baptists simply because unlike some of our beloved Christian brothers and sisters around the world, we interpret Jesus’ teaching on baptism to mean that we are supposed to baptize professing believers in water, and to do so by immersion rather than by sprinkling.

Our Spiritual Heritage
We have been doing ministry for Jesus at our current location since 1973. Prior to our name change in 2003 we were known as Donelson-Memorial Baptist Church which was a merger of the Donelson Baptist Church that met in the Donelson school building in Waterford, and the Memorial Baptist Church of Pontiac. Memorial Baptist Church was then affiliated with the Conservative Baptist Association, and was heavily involved in mission work in coordination with the mission agency, CBI (Conservative Baptists International). Both of these local congregations were planted in the 1950s by First Baptist Church of Pontiac, MI.

Scott Lake Baptist Church is now an independent baptist congregation that shines the light of Jesus’ gospel to bless lives in Oakland County, Michigan. We welcome people of diverse backgrounds, families, individuals, youth, seniors, people with special needs, and anyone who loves Jesus.
